|Description:||When rendered very small, materials possess very different properties than their regular-size counterparts. Discover the unique qualities of nano materials that will lead to breakthroughs in areas such as creating "next-generation" computers, developing nanoscale medical devices and perfecting microelectronic materials. Since the Materials Engineering program is focused on the processing and manufacturing of materials and the materials’ structure-property relationships, Materials Engineering is a natural home for nanotechnology, thus the Nano and Functional Materials Option in the Materials Engineering program.|

|Additional Admission Requirements:||
This program does not allow admission directly from high school. Preprofessional Study Time: 1 year. All students in the Qualifying Year in the Faculty of Engineering follow a common curriculum in their first year. At the end of the first year, students choose among the various specialized Engineering programs offered and between the traditional and cooperative education streams. Students with transferable post-secondary coursework taken outside of the Faculty of Engineering are considered for admission based on GPA and relevant transfer credit.
