|Description:||Retail and service is the heart of our modern consumer economy. This program focuses on fundamentals such as consumer behavior and decision-making, strategic and tactical pricing, the retail buying process, customer experience management, merchandising and category management, and commercial real estate management.
The program is designed to be a mix of theory and hands-on learning. Executives from the retail industry visit the school on a regular basis to meet with students and speak in our classrooms. In addition, retail majors and minors have the opportunity to participate in a paid summer internship with one of our partner organizations, while also conducting a project under academic supervision.

|Additional Admission Requirements:||
Applicants must first be granted admission into the UofA BCom program before they may apply to Co-op. Applicants may only be considered for the Co-op program if they have no more than *75ucw completed towards their Bachelor of Commerce Degree by August 31st, 2018. After-Degree Co-op applicants are only eligible to apply for the Co-op program if they have at least 15 courses (*45ucw) remaining in their program by August 31st, 2018. The first 150 applicants who meet the criteria for their major will be granted admission to the Co-op program. Additional applications (up to 50) will be considered on a case by case basis. Offers of admission are subject to quota limits for each major. For example, a maximum of 60 Accounting majors and 60 Finance majors will be accepted. International students may be required to complete an intake interview before being granted admission. Applicants must: present a GPA of 2.8 or higher in their most recent academic year of study that comprised a minimum of *24ucw (i.e., 4 courses per term during the regular academic year). All applicants are expected to present a minimum of 650 hours of work experience within the past 2 years. For students applying to the September 2018 intake, the work experience hours calculation only includes work experience gained between February 1, 2016 through to August 31, 2018. This work need not be business related and may include fields such as retail, hospitality, labour etc… We strongly encourage all Co-op applicants to participate in Volunteer or Extra-Curricular activities in order to increase competitiveness in securing a position.
