Field of Study: Health Services/Allied Health/Health Sciences, General
Description: Dalhousie’s Medical Sciences program will give you the specific skills and knowledge you need to make a difference in fields related to medicine and health care. In our Medical Sciences program, you’ll take the core science courses needed for entry into medicine, dentistry, and pharmacy programs, as well as related graduate studies at many major universities across Canada. As a Medical Sciences student, you also have the option to do Dalhousie’s Integrated Science program during your first year, which gives you a foundation in not only core science courses such as Biology, Chemistry, Math, Physics, Psychology and Statistics, but also the ability to participate in research your first year.

Students who want a challenging program resulting in a broad background in medical sciences, including independent research experience, may want to enrol in an Honours program. An Honours degree in the
Medical Sciences program aims to prepare students for future thesis-based graduate studies in a number of medically related fields. In addition to specific core course requirements with a minimum GPA of 3.3, students must identify a faculty member who has agreed to be their research supervisor. Students will have the flexibility to do their Honours research at a Dalhousie Research site of their choice (Faculty of Science, Faculty of Medicine, or other), subject to the approval of the Honours class coordinator. All students conduct an independent research project in their final year under the supervision of a faculty member, and a presentation of the thesis research in an Honours student research forum will be required.
