Description: | Courses offered by the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures include French, German, Spanish, Japanese and Linguistics. Linguistics, and most culture courses are offered in English. Students can also benefit from our study-abroad programs in France, Germany, Spain and Japan. The courses offered in each of these disciplines, as well as the Majors, Minors and Honours programs available, are outlined under each discipline heading. An interdisciplinary Major and Honours in Modern Languages, Literatures and Cultures are also offered, as outlined in this section.
Students who plan to specialize in one or more languages by electing a Minor, Major, or Honours program should declare their specialization to the Registrar’s Office by the end of their first year of University studies. They should also visit the program advisor in the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures before registering for second year, since most programs require the advisor’s approval of optional courses. |

Five academic grade 12-level subjects, a combination of U and M courses. University preparatory English is required and it is strongly recommended that university preparatory courses in the Humanities, Mathematics, Sciences and the Social Sciences be completed. |
