Description: German is an important language in Europe, where Germany continues to play a leadership role politically, economically, and culturally. By choosing to study German you will learn to appreciate and function in another culture and increase your opportunities.

In the German program, you will become familiar with the German language, grammatical practices, literature, and culture. The ability to communicate in a different language broadens appreciation of other cultures and increases your opportunities in the job market. The study of languages also helps you develop stronger communication and critical thinking skills, useful to a wide variety of professions.

  •  Grade12 English 

Applicants are required to have English 12 or English 12: African heritage, and four additional Grade 12 Academic or Advanced courses. Minimum overall average of 70%.

Test Scores:

  • International English Language Testing System (academic or immigration) [min. 6.5] or Canadian Academic English Language Assessment [min. 70] or Test of English as a Foreign Language (Internet Based) [min. 90] or Michigan English Language Assessment Battery [min. 80]

Since English is the language of instruction at Acadia University, candidates must be able to communicate competently in English both orally and in writing, and students whose first language is not English may be required to present the result of the TOEFL, IELTS, CAEL or PTE Academic. Acadia’s English requirements are as follows: TOEFL – 90 IBT with no subtest score below 20; IELTS – 6.5 with no subtest score below 6.0; CAEL – 70 with no subtest score below 60; PTE Academic – 61 with no subtest score below 60; Cambridge English: Advanced – 176 with no subtest score below 169; or MELAB – 80.
