Program Information

School: University of Calgary
Faculty: Arts
Degree: Bachelor; Co-op; Honours
Field of Study: History, General
Description: History is about change and continuity over time and space. Historians study the past from many perspectives – political, military and diplomatic events; economic, social and cultural development; and the role of religious ideas and beliefs in shaping human experiences. At the University of Calgary, topics for study are wide and varied, spanning global issues, such as the rise of capitalism, and micro-historical approaches, such as study of a small community or a bounded period of time like the Renaissance. The program’s geographical scope is just as wide-ranging, with faculty members researching Canada, China, Europe, Latin America, the United States, Africa and India. Enrolling in the honours program will enable you to develop your skills in historical methodology, as well as contribute to your understanding of an historical question. Get a competitive edge when you enter the workforce after graduation with our Co-operative Education program. This combines 4-8 month work terms with your studies in History. Co-op is a great way for you to gain work experience before you graduate, and gain valuable contacts in your industry of choice.
