Physics research ranges from curiositydriven theories about the universe to practical applications in materials research and medicine. What do studies of atoms tell us about the composition and internal dynamics of stars? Do human activities contribute to global warming? Can we design nano-machines to carry out repairs to ourselves? Physical principles underlie all of the other sciences.
