Description: Honours BSc Neuroscience is geared towards undergraduate students who are interested in a career in neuroscience research. The program is jointly administered by the Departments of Biology and Psychology, Neuroscience & Behaviour (PNB). Neuroscience is an inherently interdisciplinary field. Comprising all research related to neurons and nervous systems, neuroscience spans a vast array of topics, from the biophysical and electrochemical properties of nerve cells to the developmental biology of neural circuit formation to the information processing calculations carried out by the brain. To be able to comprehend past and current developments in neuroscience, and to contribute to future developments, students obtain a broad foundational skill set in biology, chemistry, computer science, mathematics, and physics, coupled with a strong introduction to the core areas of molecular, cellular, and systems neuroscience.

Applicants are required to have completion of High School Diploma plus: 5 academic courses numbered 30 or 31 (Alberta students please ask your school to send us a list of your courses for the entire year) including: English (English Language Arts 30-1); one of: Pre-Calculus Math (Math 30-1) , Calculus (Math 31, AP Calculus); Biology (Biology 30); and one of: Chemistry (Chemistry 30), Physics (Physics 30), Pre-Calculus Math (Math 30-1), Calculus (Math 31, AP Calculus). Note: Calculus (Math 31, AP Calculus) is recommended. It is recommended that all first semester grades and a list of all courses for the entire year be submitted no later than March 1.

Students who have been asked to meet McMaster’s English Language Proficiency requirement must demonstrate English language proficiency by achieving the minimum requirements as specified by McMaster: IELTS: 6.5, CAE: 176, PTE: 60, CAEL: 70, MELAB: 85, TOEFL (iBT): 86
