Degree: Bachelor
Field of Study: Atmospheric Sciences and Meteorology, General
Physics, General
Description: Physics is the study of the fundamental properties of energy and matter. It attempts to describe and explain the great diversity of nature with the fewest and simplest hypotheses. To do well in physics, you’ll need more than math skills—you’ll also need imagination. Pursuing a degree in physics and atmospheric science will give you insights into our complex and ever-changing world. Many of the modern technologies we all take for granted are rooted in physics. In Dal Physics courses, you’ll discover phenomena you can use to develop the technologies and tools of tomorrow. And in Atmospheric Science courses, you’ll learn more about the environmental issues affecting our climate.

The 120 credit hour Major is suited to students who want to focus on Physics, but wish to have a program that is somewhat less constrained than the Honours program. Physics Majors complete a minimum of 42 credit hours in Physics courses past the 1000 level as listed below. Research and other experiential learning opportunities are available through laboratories, special topics and experiential classes.
