Program Information

School: Renison University College
Faculty: Faculty of Arts
Degree: Bachelor; Co-op; Honours
Field of Study: Women’s Studies
Description: Whether we know it or not, gender and sex play a role in all aspects of social life: education, religion, family, work, leisure, health care, law, and government. Our courses in Women’s Studies, either taken as electives or as part of an academic plan, provide valuable insights into these critical gender relations. Such broad-based knowledge will enrich a range of career choices in diverse areas such as Criminology, Computer Science, Early Childhood Education, Engineering, Environmental Science, Psychology, Recreation, Social Services, Law, or Medicine.

Our first-year courses familiarize students with the ways in which women have been historically disadvantaged in society, the types of positive changes that have occurred because of women’s activism, the important issues that affect women’s lives today, and the ways in which gender intersects with race, class and sexuality.
