Description: | As a student in Theatre Studies, you will explore the history, theory, and practice of both theatre and performance from within several analytical and cultural traditions, including non-Western traditions. Small lectures and seminars will introduce you to a host of topical social and cultural issues in theatre and performance, including: gender and sexuality, race and ethnicity, Aboriginal identity and experience, and the place of the Arts in our contemporary economic landscape. In a popular hands-on class co-taught with English and Writing Studies you can take up a major role in a full-scale public production of a noted classical play text, which you and your peers will build from start to finish. In classes on Dramaturgy and Adaptation, you will learn about the challenges that face playwrights when they create for the stage.
Throughout your course of study, you can take advantage of trips to see and discuss live theatre and performance – both locally in London, at the Stratford Festival, as well as in Toronto and Detroit. During summer term, you may opt for intensive voice and text courses taught on site at the Stratford Festival and co-produced with leading Ontario drama schools. In summer and during regular term time you can also choose to flex your new skills in work placements with partner arts organizations in London, Toronto and Stratford. |
